I don’t have anything in particular to write about today so I’ll bore you with my thoughts and newsworthy tidbits.
Financial problems with my kid’s school is weighing heavy on my mind. Three of them attend a private catholic school. It’s a very small school with approximately 280 students. In my opinion it is our area’s best kept secret. The preschool is Montessori and the teachers are amazing. Class sizes are small. My oldest is moving up grades with a class of 13-14 students; seven boys and seven girls. The girls are very close and this has been such a blessing for her because she has Tourette’s Syndrome. They knew her before she developed her tics so they are more accepting of her quirkiness. I have had to deal with a bully issue but it worked out okay and it’s been a learning lesson for all of us. I’m worried because our enrollment has been down over the last five years and our 40 year old school is having financial trouble. We are not affiliated with a parish and the Sisters that sponsor us have sent a letter that some big decisions need to be made about the future of our school. The rumors are flying that the school is closing and I’m praying that they are just that; rumors. I don’t know what we’ll do if the school closes. Most of the parish school’s around here are over crowded and there are waiting lists. We won’t do public because my oldest also has trouble with auditory processing but not enough to be considered learning disabled which means she wouldn’t get the special school assistance that she needs. I’m afraid she would get lost in the large class sizes. Plus religion in school is very important to us and I love uniforms. So far my daughters are clueless about name brands and I want to keep it that way for as long as I can which is why I was very pleased to read this. Homeschooling is not an option for me either because we nearly kill each other doing homework. I can’t imagine trying to teach her several hours a day. This slacker mom needs the break. All I can do is pray and ask that if you are the praying type please sneak the continuation of our school in your prayers.
Some little tidbits I read this morning:
Some lower than dirt human beings are exploiting the wife of deceased Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin with a “Nigerian e-mail scam.” You can read about it here. I wish the worst karma on these people.
Teach your kids to not to torment other kids because they may come back and kill you when you’re adults. An ex-nurse has been charged with the murder of a former classmate, who died five years ago following a mini face-lift at the clinic where the ex-nurse was working at the time. Go here to read more.
There is and up and coming exponential link-swapping, site exploding system called eXlinks. You can sign up for it here.

Oh, I hope your school finds a way to muddle through. I will pray for you too. Thanks for the link about the shoes, I just love knowing someone somewhere has their head on right. AND, they are being vocal about it. Finally! I needed that.

I know too well about the bullying thing - I’m glad yours was resolved quickly. I do hope your school will pull through and your kids can still keep going there.
I totally understand about the homeschooling thing; I tried for a couple of years and it was HIGH stress and I just didn’t want to continue - even my kids hated it. But I guess God had other plans for me, because now I’m homeschooling at least one… next year at least two…

Well, I hope this cheers you up some: I just nominated you for the ROFL awards. (I posted about it today) It was hard to narrow it down to just one, but I did. I know you might think this is just a sneaky ploy to get you back into the swing of things for my own selfish reason so I can get a good laugh again. But, honestly, it is a well deserved nomination!

It would be so sad if your comfort zone were taken away. I have usually found rumours to be rumours. I really hope that there is no immediate threat to your school.
